We reopened the Art Trope Gallery a few steps from the Centre Pompidou and the opening takes place at the end of the week!

Art Trope Gallery presents two photographic exhibitions, from November 28^th 2020 to January 30^th 2021

We are pleased to welcome you this weekend in the presence of our Artists, including Laurent Elie Badessi, for the opening on Saturday, December 5^th from 2pm to 7pm as well as Laurent Elie Badessi’s book signing on Sunday, December 6^th from 1pm to 6pm.

Laurent Elie Badessi in partnership with Polka Gallery « Age of Innocence – Children & Guns in the USA” 

For the publication of his new book Age of Innocence (ed. Images Plurielles), Laurent Elie Badessi, a French-American photographer, presents to Art Trope Gallery, in partnership with Polka Gallery, a selection of 27 photographs. Coming from a photographers family over three generations, he was able to explore and appreciate photography starting from his young age.

He received several awards, including a grant from the Ministry of Culture for his exhibition “Métamorphoses” that took place in Paris. A large format of his series Age of Innocence was recently exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery, London, as part of the prestigious Taylor Wessing Prize.

His photographs are part of many major public and private collections such as the Whitney Museum, the Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne, the France National Library, the Gilman Collection, the Sir Elton John Collection…

“… In order to highlight the ambivalent relation between American youth and firearms, Laurent Elie Badessi chose to photograph children with a pistol or a rifle in their hands, whether or not they are used to handle these. He thus explores the ambiguous relation that binds a child to a firearm.

Confronted to the firearms world since the 1990s when he moved to Texas, Laurent Elie Badessi further remembers the reassuring aspect firearms constituted for those who owned them, and who insisted on the vital importance to be trained on how to use them cautiously. Regardless of our opinion on the subject, the artist advocates for the priority to build a peaceful environment. Between pleasure and beauty, safety and protection, their answers – which we can read next to each photograph – are diverse and a better understanding of this firearms culture which has become an inseparable part of the history of the United States of America.” Translation from the article of Nicolas Mazet and Kate Davis, Maison d’art et d’histoire Gallifet, Aix-en-Provence.
