Art Trope Gallery presents you the portrait of the French Filmmaker, Writer and Photographer Fabienne Berthaud
We are delighted to highlight the portrait of the French Filmmaker, Writer and Photographer Fabienne Berthaud, displayed in the exhibition “Alterity: I is an Other” from July 04 to September 03, 2022 at Art Trope Gallery.
Fabienne Berthaud was born in Gap in the Hautes-Alpes. She has spent a part of her childhood in Algeria. She returned to France at the age of 11 with her family and settled in Paris. Self-taught, she has practiced in parallel footage and writing. As she was interested in photography, she began a personal work that will accompany each of her cinematographic work. She will constantly go from a film camera to a camera, to a pen.
“I do the same work using different tools, photography accompanies each of my cinematographic work. It is intrinsically linked to the creative process; my approach is based on this documentary material. Thus, I find my frames, the point of view, the authenticity, the accuracy, and the emotion of my work. My photographs have no artifice of light. I have this need to be in tune with my subject. To feel a certain exhilaration, a connection, something vibrant and organic while I do the shot.”

Fabienne Berthaud presents her series ” Erasure ” :
“March 17, 2020. 12 p.m. Quarantine n°1. The inability to be with others. Absence. I withdrew to the countryside. Isolation. Creation. I have no subject. I have no eyes. I have no body. I have no flesh. I have no emotion. No more humanity to put behind my lens. Nature imposes itself. Still and always stronger. Honor it. A story. A character. I use myself. Being alive without a face. The self is another. Relating to the living. The idea of a series is necessary. ”
