In view of the success of the personal exhibition of Bruno Palisson‘s “Equanimity” photographic series, in partnership with Art Trope Gallery, Picto and Cián du Giorgi, the city of Noirmoutier has decided to extend the artist-photographer’s exhibition until 11 November 2023!
Photographer Bruno Palisson presents 24 works from his “Equanimity” series, exhibited in the courtyard and moat of the Noirmoutier Château-Musée.
The artist questions Life through textures, shapes and color.
Bruno Palisson’s artistic approach takes us beyond the great question of “the origin of life” and its mystery. The original structure of matters, forms and hues in nature are the basis of his inspiration.
The subjects often impose themselves on the Photographer as evidence after a long time of coexistence, revealed by emotion, feelings, sensations… This is how his travel photographs are his own story and his occasionally dreamy thoughts. These are explorations of before, during and after. They are also doubts and hesitations, moments and paths that must be tried, attempted, since “as we reveal ourselves, we are never wrong”.
The works are a means to transport the Artist’s memory, and are in perpetual motion. Bruno Palisson tells a photographic story that he piles up and superimposes, overlays or transparence as a life that unfolds, and piles up with intensity of this unspeakable mixture of past, present and future.
Bruno Palisson’s photographs are not recognisable landscapes or clearly identifiable objects, but moments and/or suggested thoughts, which he recommends to browse and share. The artist invites us on a photographic journey of his imagination and his memories, like moments in suspension.
Bruno Palisson statement about his “Equanimity” series :
” What could be more banal around the age of 50 than trying to understand what is essential to our existence and taking a step back from the race we are leading within our society, and try to put this last stage of our existence into perspective. At the same time try to understand this distancing, this frightening but abstract crevice, hence the difficulty of apprehending it, which we continue to constantly enlarge with nature, until the break, which perhaps will bring us to our loss ?
I thus wished to get closer to the elements, the Earth, the Air, the Water and the Wood which are familiar to me and which however I do not look at enough. I observed, contemplated then meditated, I exposed myself, at least I coped without cheating, in order to become one with the moment and these elements. To be with them, to go to the essential, to the simplest, and to be as close as possible to our origins to perhaps be better reborn and perhaps for the first time, to live.
It is this reunion with our origins, this nature, ourselves, that I wanted to share with you.”
It was with a ‘Goldy’ Box camera, a gift from his father, that Bruno Palisson took his first photographs at the age of 10. Throughout his adolescence, he asserted himself through this medium, setting up a freelance practice at the age of 17.
Three years later he began a professional career as an architectural photographer, working for agencies and magazines. At the same time, he was studying for a degree in architecture and in 1994, with his colleague Jean-Luc Calligaro, he founded the architecture agency Atelier PO & PO in Paris.
In 1997 he represented the company Polaroïd in France for the brand’s 50th anniversary and in 1999, he co-directed an artistic campaign for the candy brand Cachou Lajaunie as part of a collective.
In 1999, he took part in the Festival d’Art sans Fin in Bern, and this work was presented in the program Tracks on Arte. The artworks of Bruno Palisson, Photographer and Architect, are frequently shown and are part of Private Collections.
The Artist’s work is particularly selected by various Photography Festivals such as “Les Voies Off” of Les Rencontres Internationales d’Arles (2019), the “Festival les Focales du Pays d’Auge” of Honfleur (2020), the “Surrealist Festival“ of Fréjus (2021), the “Présence(s) Photographie Festival” of Montélimar (2022) ; and are published in professional magazines, such as L’Œil de la Photographie, Openeye, Fisheye and Réponses Photo.
Since 2021, Bruno Palisson is represented by Art Trope Gallery and has shown his work in Arles during Les Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie, at the ST-ART Contemporary Art Fair in Strasbourg and at the VOLTA Contemporary Art Fair in Basel, Switzerland.
We would like to thank our partners for their support in making this exhibition possible:
Listed as a Historical Monument, the Château de Noirmoutier-en-l’Île is an impressive fortress dating from the 12th century, and a remarkable heritage. The Noirmoutier castle-museum houses collections evoking the island of Noirmoutier and its history as “Mort du général D’Elbée” by Julien Le Blant, showing the execution of the soldier in front of the castle, in 1794.
A temporary exhibition is held every year.
For 70 years, Picto has been a reference for image professionals. Founded in 1950 by Pierre Gassmann, a humanist and friend of the great photographers of his time, Picto is a specialist in the graphic chain, combining traditional know-how with new technologies.
“Cián du Giorgi” is a little and precious winery located in the Cinque Terre National Park. As small as all the other wineries in the region, it is precious because it helps to preserve the delicate balance of the territory.
Artist Bruno Palisson has been widely featured in articles dedicated to his photographic work. Fisheye Magazine, L’œil de la Photographie, Réponses Photo, Dohdo, Picto, as well as La Provence and Ouest France have all devoted in-depth articles and exclusive interviews to allow their readers to explore the creative process of photographer Bruno Palisson, his sources of inspiration and his unique artistic vision.
